The 2026 group stage runs from 11 June to 2 July 2026 and features 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. Each team plays three group stage matches. The top two teams from each group, plus the eight best third-placed teams from across all 12 groups, advance to the Round of 32 — the new knockout stage introduced with the expanded format.
The Round of 32 takes place from 4 to 9 July 2026, followed by the Round of 16 from 11 to 14 July. Quarter-finals are scheduled for 16 and 17 July, with semi-finals on 19 and 20 July. The third-place play-off takes place on 22 July 2026, and the World Cup Final is on 23 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
